Redstone Castle is a secluded getaway, but it’s also the perfect home base to enjoy the great outdoors. Here are some of our favorite ideas for summer activities in and around Redstone.
The Western Slope of Colorado is one of the greatest destinations for hiking, climbing, biking, and other outdoor activities in the state. If you’re interested in a casual day out, Coal Creek Road is an easy walk through aspen groves and red stone cliffs. Or if you want a much more substantial adventure, there are more than half a dozen 14,000-foot peaks within an hour’s drive of our hotel.
If a sweaty brow and sore legs don’t sound like your cup of tea, Avalanche Outfitters offers horseback rides from one hour to a full day, taking you on a wandering tour of all the majestic wilderness that this area has to offer. Allow us to call and assist with scheduling your adventure.
Just five miles from the castle is Avalanche Ranch Hot Springs, which offers mineral-rich, naturally heated waters that will help you melt your stress away. With two pools connected by a waterfall, there’s no better place to unwind after a long day. Allow us to call and assist with scheduling your adventure.
One of the most photographed locations in North America, the Crystal Mill is just eight miles up the road from Redstone. You can get there with a capable four-wheel-drive vehicle, you can take a guided Jeep or ATV tour, or you can even walk — it’s only about nine miles round trip!
John Osgood didn’t just build the Redstone Castle, he built much of the town of Redstone itself. This charming little village, with a full-time population of less than 100, has a church, a pizza place, an ice-cream parlor, and several antique shops packed with mountain town souvenirs. If you’re in the mood for a calm, casual day in town, you can while the hours away just walking up and down the street!
